- Why is this useful for an AI chat?
- Markdown is compact and keeps structure, so a model reads the headings and tables as structure rather than as a wall of text. It also uses far fewer tokens than pasting a whole PDF.
- Nothing came out. What went wrong?
- Your PDF is a scan with no text layer. Run OCR PDF over it first.
- How well does it keep the structure?
- Headings, paragraphs and lists come through in order. Multi-column layouts and complex tables flatten, because a PDF stores positions rather than structure.
- Can I get Markdown out of a scan?
- Only after OCR. A scan has no text to extract, so run it through OCR PDF first and then convert.
