How to use Compare PDF
- Choose the two versions you want compared.
- Press Compare. Differences are found at word level, not line level.
- Read the summary and step through every change.
Questions
- Why word level rather than line level?
- A line-level diff marks an entire paragraph as changed when one word moved. Word level shows you the word, which is usually the thing you were actually looking for.
- Can it compare scans?
- Only if both have a text layer. Run OCR PDF over each first, and bear in mind OCR errors will show up as differences.
- Does it compare formatting as well as words?
- It compares the words. A change of font or spacing with identical wording shows as no change, which is usually what you want when checking a contract.
- Can it compare scans?
- Only after OCR — a scan has no text to compare. Run both versions through OCR PDF first.
